A long time between drinks…

Welcome

First off just want to say this is not what I planned for this blog page.

I love writing, I love travelling and I love sharing. But the sharing and writing has been taking a back seat to procrastination and distraction, and it’s time for a change. I have really missed writing. You know that raw writing that’s not AI or grammerly edited.

The last month has been mentally draining, and last night I got away, just the one night, but sometimes one night is all you need.

I’ve started playing Payphone Tag, so the road trip started with that, and just like the geocaching it takes you to places you may not stop or go to. So on my way to meet my partner at the Lake I traveled a little further onto Glendon first to capture the phone box there.

I quickly realised I have never visited Glendon before, it had a definite Mt Newman feel about it, and reminded me of my time there back in “96”.

Glendon is a tiny town built to service the local mines, and recently had to fight not to be closed down, fortunately they won and the locals got to stay.

From there it’s a short drive to Lake Elphinstone, this is a popular place for locals who love camping and boating, and the traveller needing an overnight stay an grey nomads wanting to stay by the water for free for a while.

Back in the day the amenities block had a donkey that you could use to heat up the water, but now those have been closed down and a new amenities block has been built, there are still showers but only cold ones.

Recently a dump point has been put in which is a popular addition to the campsite!

For those who geocache the one up in the hills has been gone for years, but there is a series along the road that will keep you stopping and looking. If you are heading out that way though make sure to make an offline list as you won’t have any service.

What is so magical about this place is that the road noise is minimal. The camping area is vast so there is no camping on top of everyone and 9/10 times the sky is clear, the view of the Milky Way here is amazing and the paperbacks that are lining the bank makes for beautiful photography.

So relaxing around the campfire last night, and the stars sparkling overhead was just the natural therapy I needed. A reminder that sometimes you just need to get back to nature, you need to disconnect from the chaos and just sit back and appreciate the world around you.

No filter, just an iPhone and nature.
